How to calculate IPO listing gain
Listing gain is the percentage change from the final issue price to the market price at listing.
The formula
Listing gain % = (listing price − issue price) ÷ issue price × 100.
Example
If the issue price is ₹200 and the stock lists at ₹240, the gain is ₹40 per share. ₹40 ÷ ₹200 × 100 = 20%.
For one lot
Multiply the per-share gain by allotted shares. With 75 shares, ₹40 × 75 = ₹3,000 before charges and taxes.
Choose the right price
Opening price, listing-day high and closing price are different values. State clearly which price is used.
Estimated gain
An estimate based on GMP is not an actual return. GMP can change and the exchange opening price follows the applicable market process.
